Practice Instructions

First, we need to see the word and read it with our eyes.

Next, listen to the word carefully.

Then, say the word out loud.

By doing this, we will learn new words and understand how the nine parts of speech organize words in the correct order.

Additionally, each day you should read for 10–15 minutes and copy words for 10 minutes. When copying, start the first word with a capital letter.

Grammar Tips

To begin with, the first part of a sentence is called the subject, and it is almost always a noun.

However, many times you will find an article in front of it. For example, “a,” “an,” and “the.”

Moving on, after the subject comes the predicate, which is the verb. Then, additional information or details complete the idea or thought.

In short, a sentence must have a complete thought. Not every sentence has all nine parts of speech, but many do.

These are: 1. Noun, 2. Pronoun, 3. Adjective, 4. Verb, 5. Adverb, 6. Preposition, 7. Article, 8. Conjunction, 9. Interjection.

Finally, punctuation goes at the very end, usually a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.

Reading and Speaking Tips

As we read, I will raise and lower my voice to show word stress, chunks, phrases, and sentence parts.

Moreover, watch out for commas because we pause when we reach them.

In conclusion, reading out loud helps us learn a lot each time we practice.
