Who is Peter Horton?

Hello, I am Peter Horton. After serving as a trainer in the U.S. Army, I went on to teach in China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Michigan, and Colorado. From 2004 to 2023, I taught over 3,500 students while also working in business and English education. Consequently, I created this website to share high-quality English and ESL resources, lessons, and information.
Unfortunately, my journey has revealed a serious issue: many schools across America are failing both students and parents. For instance, America now ranks 22nd globally in education, while Michigan is 37th among U.S. states. Even more concerning, up to 80% of students are not reading at grade level and continue to struggle on state and national exams. As a substitute teacher, I often meet students who cannot read, write, or identify the nine parts of speech. In fact, at one school I interviewed with, the website admitted that only 12% of students could read at grade level. Sadly, this reflects a broader reality, about 80% of students fail to meet reading and writing expectations nationwide.
However, there is hope. When I step into classrooms, I consistently raise student scores by 20–45 points within just 65 class days. In addition, I have founded schools in China, Korea, and Saudi Arabia. At the start, 90% of students struggled with English skills; nevertheless, within a single school year, they advanced 3–5 grade levels in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
