6th English Language Arts Unit 1
Introduction of the Teacher
Studying ELA whether you are a native speaker or acquiring it as a second language, creates a multitude of opportunities! In fact, it enables you to read incredible books, craft exciting stories, and connect with friends from various backgrounds. For example, expanding your vocabulary can enhance your writing skills, while practicing speaking allows you to express your ideas with confidence. Additionally, being proficient in English lets you enjoy entertaining movies and play fantastic games in the language. Ultimately, it’s akin to unlocking a special superpower!
My Letter of Introduction
Hello! My name is Peter Horton, and I am an educator, website designer, builder, and English/ESL teacher. Welcome to our English class—I’m excited to share part of my journey with you.
My Personal Life
To begin with, I was born in Utica, Michigan, but my childhood truly started in the small town of Frederic, just north of Grayling. We lived in a modest 18×20-foot home, lit by a gas lantern and warmed by a wood stove. My straw bed and our days of hunting, fishing, and gardening created a simple yet meaningful life.
Nevertheless, I never felt deprived. Instead, I was surrounded by what mattered most: a loving family, loyal friends, and a supportive school community. Later, in third grade, we moved to Caseville for new job opportunities, and although I made wonderful friends there, my heart often returned to Frederic during weekends and vacations.
My Journey as a Teacher
As I grew older, I realized that change would always be part of life. After high school, I joined the Army and pursued higher education. Consequently, my thirst for knowledge and adventure led me around the world—from walking along the Great Wall of China to exploring majestic palaces in the East. Teaching in different countries allowed me to immerse myself in diverse cultures and discover the beauty of each.
Over time, my experiences formed a tapestry of opportunities: working in business, appearing in TV ads, and even meeting remarkable people like Red Adair, whose life inspired Hollywood films. Most importantly, I discovered my true passion—teaching. With more than 3,500 students taught in China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Michigan, and Colorado, I have found joy in guiding learners through the wonders of language and literature.
However, since I can only teach about six classes with 150 students at a time, I created an English and ESL website to reach more learners worldwide. Above all, I want each of you to know that you are my VIP, and together, we will begin an exciting chapter of learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Peter Horton
